Doctor Fuentes has just lost his wife and decides to spend his holiday visiting the students he had trained three years before. Fuentes spends days in the wilderness trying to find his pupils and encounters an orphan boy. The child tells him that the army systematically destroys the villages and slaughters the Indians who resist.

After having heard that some Indians headed to a mysterious city called "Cerca del Cielo", Fuentes is presumed lost in the mountains and never found by the army. Fuentes disappears once more into the jungle in order to find out if this place really exists.
